Mother keeps a mangle - Memories of East Bristol

by Jack Williams and Christopher Humphries

Apparently when 'mother keeps a mangle' was written on primary school log books locally in times past it meant a boy was off school helping his mother taking in washing.

This book by two born and bred East Bristolians is full of such reminiscences and local history details. It is packed with hundreds of photographs and illustrations throughout its 293 pages. The focus is mainly on Easton and surrounding districts but there is a small section on St Werburghs towards the end. It includes a few nice unpublished photographs.

Costing 13.99 and postage, there are have only been a few hundred copies of this self-published tome printed and all profits go to St Peter's Hospice. It is available from the authors - contact Jack Williams on 0117 9615481 or Chris Humphries on 0117 9650745
